    Growing up in the cultural hodgepodge that is Berkeley, Calvin Young has always had a passion for its diverse food and beverage scene. A Bay Area native, Young started his professional career in the East Bay as a bar back at several credible restaurants including Denny Abram's Zut! on Fourth. Young quickly made his way up the ranks at all of his past positions eventually moving his talents to San Francisco.

    In San Francisco, Young became the General Manager of both China Live’s lavish Scotch-centric bar Cold Drinks Bar and Marketplace Restaurant, San Francisco’s arguably most ambitious restaurant opening of 2017. Young and his team were able to achieve several accolades including, top 4 Best new Bars on the West Coast and SF Eater’s Restaurant of the Year in 2017.

    After his tenure at China Live, Young joined the Ozumo Concepts International (OCI) restaurant group as the Director of Beverage but was quickly promoted to both the Vice President of Operations and Director of Business Optimization, Operations Finance, & Technology. Initially joining the company as Director of Beverage, Young revamped the entire portfolio’s beverage programs, including San Francisco’s long time standing, Ozumo. As the VP. of Operations, Young worked to improve upon each of the four asset’s operations by systematically implementing new SOPs to improve restaurant operations and lead marketing initiatives to create visibility for each asset, ultimately garnering a larger market share. These, among many more, initiatives lead to a growth in topline sales by over 9.5% while his ability to demonstrate a disciplined control over costs, increasing margins and grew net revenues by 4.5%. Also focusing on developing new restaurants and concepts to ensure the successful future of the Restaurant Group and just before Young left the company, OCI was doing $16M in revenue, annually, and had just secured a new project which would add an additional $10M in annual revenues.

  • Michael Petrilli

    Co-Founder

    With a number of successful Bay Area restaurants, he has built a career in hospitality that has evolved out of a passion for service, quality, customer experience, and natural leadership.

    Michael processes a wide range of expertise. He specifically has focused on streamlining operations to produce financially successful enterprises, finding and adopting technologically based solutions, team building and human resources, marketing, and concept development. He is known to be a collaborator, effective problem-solver, and honest operator.

    Most recently as Vice President, Michael A. Petrilli oversaw and assists in all aspects of the 1100 Group's Restaurant Management & Consulting Firms restaurant operations, which includes The Star and Little Star brands. Through his efforts and team leadership, the company grew from $10M to $20M in 4 years, and he was directly involved in the opening of four successful restaurant operations. Prior to the 1100 Group, Michael was the General Manager and Beverage Director of the popular New American bistro, Zut! on Fourth St., in Berkeley, a bar manager at Bar Cesar, and began his career in Santa Cruz at established restaurants such as Soif Wine Bar & Merchants and Aldo’s Harbor Restaurant.

    Michael was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and attended the University of California Santa Cruz, where he received a double major in both Environmental Studies and Sociology. Beyond the restaurant industry, Michael is a dedicated father and husband and lives in Albany, California, where he is active in the Business Association, member of the Economic Development Committee, and community in general. He is passionate about the environment and desires to find sustainable solutions within the hospitality industry. He enjoys sports and outdoor recreation and cooking for his family and friends.
